Residents of Nakuru were treated to shocking scenes as members of two churches battled within the church premises on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
According to reports by The Standard, the altercation occurred when two rival churches - One Accord Christian Centres and St Gertrude’s Catholic Church, were embroiled in a land dispute at Ngata on the outskirts of Nakuru town.
Pastor Mark Kiroso of the One Accord Centre claimed to have received a disturbing call from the area's Assistant Chief, Charles Koech who went on to inform him that his church was being demolished by a group from St Gertrude's.
The Catholic church faithful had locked off the main entrance area as they went about tearing down pastor Kiroso's church.
“It is wrong for the church to demolish our altar without a notice. We cannot allow this,” the pastor lamented.
The rowdy youth ignored the pastor's pleas and went about demolishing the perimeter wall.
Some disgruntled members of the One Accord Christian Centre found their way into the church compound to try and stop the destruction, but it proved to be too late as their church had been stripped down to its foundation.
The fiery incident comes just days after a group of religious leaders from Nyahururu and its environs stormed the Nyahururu Police Station to lodge their complaints.
They were up in arms over an increase in the number of robberies in the area targeting churches.
The clergy claimed that the burglars were part of a syndicate since they were targeting public address systems, TV large screens and sound amplifiers among other electronics.
