Busy Nairobi Highway to Be Closed for 4 Days

The government, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, announced that a major Nairobi highway would be partly closed for 4 days to allow for the erection of beams.

"Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to inform members of the public that a section of the dual carriageway of Southern Bypass at Lang'ata NHC Flyover will be closed on Saturday 9, to Tuesday, November 12, " read an excerpt of the public notice.

The roads authority announced that the installation of beams on the ongoing construction of the Lang'ata - Ngong Road link, was the reason for the closure.

Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes to avoid inconveniences over the weekend.

The closure will start from 12:00pm to 6:00am each day, with drivers heading to the Western region and to Mombasa Road, instructed to use service lanes as directed by traffic marshalls.

"We appreciate the support, cooperation and understanding of the public as we endeavour to modernize our urban road infrastructure for efficient transport," read a section of the statement.

The notice was signed by KURA Director-General Silas M. Kinoti.

Back in 2018, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia unveiled a plan to reduce traffic jams in the city centre by completing a ring road and four-link roads.

The CS announced that Ngong and Outer Ring roads would be improved, while Lang’ata Road would be expanded.
