On Tuesday, November 5, Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o assumed office as the mayor of Menomonie City within Dunn County in the western part of Wisconsin, US.

Nyongo travelled to the US to promote trade and tourism in Kisumu County.

"Honoured to have 'assumed' the routine duties of the City of Menomonie's mayor for a few minutes, "Nyong'o wrote on his social media.

The Kisumu governor was received by Menomonie City Mayor Randy Knaak and assumed the official duties temporarily.

Nyong'o further stated that residents of Menomonie were eager to enter into a partnership with the County Government of Kisumu.

"23 tourists from the City of Menomonie visited Kisumu in 2017 and were amazed by the county's rich potential in tourism and culture," Governor Nyong'o affirmed.

In the budget estimate of the 2018/2019 fiscal year, Kisumu County projected to spend more than Ksh2 million for trade and tourism.

On Thursday, May 30 Governor Nyong'o signed an MOU with the United Cities and Local Governments in Africa (UCLG-Africa) organisation to spearhead economic development in Kisumu.

UCLG-Africa organises the Africities Summit as a flagship event and is held every three years in one of the five regions on the continent.
