Nairobi-Bound Plane Forced to Turn Back Mid-Air Over Staff's Blunder

A Nairobi-bound plane was on Tuesday, November 5, forced to return to South Africa after one of its engineers allegedly made a blunder.

According to a report by Citizen Digital, the plane left Oliver Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, at 12:10pm South African time.

Thirty minutes into the journey, the crew was informed of an alleged stowaway aboard the Boeing 787-8 plane.

The Aviation Herald indicated that the plane was "climbing out of Johannesburg when the crew was informed a maintenance engineer should have been left in Johannesburg."

"While levelling off at FL310, the crew turned around and returned to Johannesburg for a safe landing on runway 03R about 30 minutes later," continued the statement.

The Aviation Herald often reports incidents that occur in the aviation industry around the world.

The delay is reported to have cost the plane 105 minutes. The engineer was ostensibly discovered after the plane touched down and that he was conscious.

"The aircraft remained on the ground for about an hour, then departed again and reached Nairobi with a delay of 105 minutes," continued the statement.

This comes months after another stowaway was found on a Kenyan plane that was travelling to London from Nairobi.

In the July, 2019, incident, the man was believed to have died inside the plane before dropping to the ground in Clapham, South London.

"UK police also discovered a bag containing food and some clothing at the rear left landing gear of the plane,” Kenya Airports Authority disclosed at the time.
