Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, on Wednesday, November 6, penned what seemed like a riot message to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the message posted on social media, the former lawmaker urged the president to disregard the 2019 census results as they were not entirely factual.
Using his Ikolomani region as an example, Khalwale pointed out that it made no sense for the constituency to record a reduced population in 10 years, without any significant calamity.
Reading malice into the findings, he further claimed that a section of leaders cooked the results in order to deny some regions a sizeable share from the national cake.
"Mr president, sir, the population of Ikolomani is reportedly now 111,743 down from the 143,153 in 2009.
"There was no epidemic in Ikolomani! These fake census results are meant to deny some regions and communities the national shareable revenue. Stop it!" stated Khalwale.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Khalwale maintained that he was sending a message to the authorities to let them know that they would not accept data that does not meet national and international standards.
"For the population of an area to drop, only three scientific things happened. Either there was war in the region, an epidemic or a mass transfer of people. None of it has happened in Ikolomani.
"For population to drop, it can only mean there was deliberate manipulation of data," he explained
Other leaders have also disputed the results that were released on Monday, November 4, that pegged the country's total population at 47 million.
Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi threatened to take legal action against the state over the results, arguing that the county's figure of 1.5 million was not factual.
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, together with Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara and Chuka Igamba Ngombe MP Patrick Munene, also decried the county's 393,177 population figure as extremely low.
“I’m shocked to see those results because that is not what we expected. I think there is something fishy that has been done. But we shall have a meeting as Mt Kenya leaders to look into these figures keenly and take a position on this issue,” argued Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome over Murang’a County's 1,056,640 figure.
