Nairobi Road Closure Spells Nightmare for Motorists

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority(KURA) has announced of a road closure at the junction of Ring Road Parklands at 4th Parklands Avenue this week.

The authority advised motorists to use alternative routes from Monday, 11th Nov 2019 till Sunday, 17th Nov 2019 due to the ongoing construction at the section.

"The junction of Ring Road Parklands at 4th Parklands Avenue will be closed as from Monday, 11th Nov 2019 till Sunday, 17th Nov 2019 due to the ongoing works on that section. Kindly use other alternative routes as we strive to provide efficient urban roads," KURA stated while issuing a notice.

This comes a week after on Tuesday, November 5, the government announced that a major Nairobi highway would be partly closed for 4 days to allow for the erection of beams.

"Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to inform members of the public that a section of the dual carriageway of Southern Bypass at Lang'ata NHC Flyover will be closed on Saturday 9, to Tuesday, November 12, " read an excerpt of the public notice.

The roads authority announced that the installation of beams on the ongoing construction of the Lang'ata - Ngong Road link, was the reason for the closure.

Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes to avoid inconveniences over the weekend.

Back in 2018, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia unveiled a plan to reduce traffic jams in the city centre by completing a ring road and four-link roads.

The CS announced that Ngong and Outer Ring roads would be improved, while Lang’ata Road would be expanded.
