A Jubilee MP decried being blocked from attending a function which President Uhuru Kenyatta was supposed to address in Nairobi on November 12, 2019.
According to a Parliament's Hansard report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, Nominated MP Jeniffer Shamalla had expressed interest in attending the ongoing International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) but was prevented because of her tough stance on sexual orientation.
The conference, which is taking place at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) and was organised by the United Nations, was officially opened by the president.
Taking to the floor of the National Assembly, the nominated lawmaker claimed that she was discriminated against and that it was unfair to her and others who wanted to attend.
"Indeed, I want to confirm that it is not only I as an MP, but there are hundreds of Kenyans who have been categorised and there is nothing wrong with being conservative.
"Let us make it very clear that in this country, nobody is bashing them. They have equal rights like ours. I do not understand why they want to have rights specific for themselves. It is a fact that we have been denied registration," protested Shamalla.
To prove her case, she further claimed that she had evidence on her phone.
"I can provide all the evidence which is currently on my WhatsApp page as we speak today. I have found it extremely ironical that after I was denied registration, they are now asking me to go and get accreditation somewhere else," she continued.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Shamalla explained that she was denied the accreditation by the UN alongside other Kenyans and lawmakers who were pro-life and pro-family values.
As a result, the MPs organised their own parallel conference at the Cardinal Otunga Holy Basilica with an aim of addressing the ICPD's real agenda in the country.
"I and many other Kenyans were denied accreditation because of our stance on these issues. We are planning our own parallel event at Cardinal Otunga, Holy Basilica," she stated.
Uhuru, in his speech during the opening of the event, remarked that the country would see through the anti-female genital mutilation campaign.
Deputy President William Ruto had earlier expressed unease with the event advising Kenyans to pick positive morals and ditch negative ones for the period it will run.
