Students Storm Police Station, Force Officers Into Hiding

Students from the Technical University of Mombasa on Wednesday, November 13, downed their books and took to the streets in protest.

They marched across the streets of Mombasa, with sources claiming that they had set their sights on Makupa Police Station.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke a student at the campus who requested anonymity claimed that they decided to march to the police precinct over rising insecurity in the area.

"Two days ago, we lost two of our comrades to thugs. As if this was not enough to warrant security reinforcements in the area, just yesterday, two other students were mercilessly butchered by machete-wielding thugs and are currently fighting for their lives. We've had enough," the source stated.

A gang only identified as 'Matejjas' have been terrorising the campus and its environs, reports revealed.

The student further revealed that the police officers at Makupa Police station had barricaded themselves within the precinct.

He added that the officers had opted to disengage from the fracas to avoid the fate of the four officers who found themselves in trouble after footage of them battering a student at JKUAT went viral.

The protests are a mirror image of similar demonstrations held at JKUAT Juja campus on November 11.
