A police officer based in Siaya County was on the night of Tuesday, November 12 left for dead after thugs attacked him while on his way to work.
In a report filed at Siaya Police Station, the un-uniformed officer lost his gun to the assailants who left him bleeding outside Kenya Red Cross offices in the area until he was rescued by well-wishers.
An NMG publication reported that the officer was heading to guard Siaya County Commissioner Michael Oletialal’s residence when the duo, a man and a woman, attacked him.
“We were alerted that there was a police officer who was lying on the road bleeding near Red Cross office in Siaya Map Ref XR453037. OCS Siaya and a team rushed to the scene and found the officer,” read the report.
The statement further explained that the officer had been hit on the head using a blunt object and lost his AK47 gun loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
He was taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital as police launched a manhunt for the attackers.
In related news, on October 5, a detective from the DCI was found murdered and his badly mutilated body dumped in a mangrove forest in Kizingitini, Lamu County.
The sleuth is said to have been murdered by suspected drug dealers in the area.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata, stated on Tuesday, November 12 that Constable Hesbon Okemwa Anunda was lured to his death by people who phoned and asked him to arrest a fictitious drug dealer.
Officer Anunda's body was discovered three days after he was reported missing from his duty post at Tchundwa Police Station in Lamu East Sub-county and his gun is yet to be recovered.
