Clobbered JKUAT Student Opens Up on Death Threats

A JKUAT student, whose predicament at the hands of rogue police officers irked Kenyans, narrated how he was later tortured and threatened after being clobbered.

Allan Omondi was brutally assaulted during a strike by the university students on Monday, November 11, as depicted in a video that went viral.

In an interview with NTV, the student lamented how the police profiled him for having dreadlocks.

"They cornered me as I went to look for a soda and without asking any questions, descended on me with kick and blows," Omondi narrated.

The video of police raining kicks and blows on him sparked outrage online, but unknown to many, the brutality continued away from the public eye.

He spent the next four hours inside a police land cruiser as it made rounds within Juja, trying to contain the students who were protesting.

Omondi narrated how police forced him to lie on the vehicle's floor while his hand was handcuffed to the roof of the cruiser, as they threatened to kill him.

"It got worse when they arrested me and threw me into the cruiser because they cuffed me on the roof of the car and ordered me to lie on the floor as I could not sit with them," he added.

Omondi tried to explain that he was asthmatic and needed an inhaler but the police heard none of it.

The teargas had turned his eyes red and police branded him as a member of the mungiki sect and accused him of having smoked bhang.

"They threatened me stating that because of my hair I was probably a mungiki and because my eyes were red from the tear gas, they accused me of having smoked bhang and told me that I would not get to the station as they would finish me in the car," Omondi concluded.
