Citizen TV reporter and political affairs editor Francis Gachuri on Tuesday, November 19, pulled no punches when he made clear his suspicions on the way President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga were handling the BBI issue.
Speaking on Radio Citizen's Jambo Kenya show, Gachuri stated that he had absolute surety that President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga were playing the public when they denied having knowledge of the contents of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report currently in their possession.
"I am a hundred percent sure that Uhuru and Raila know the contents of the BBI. There is no doubt that they have been briefed and have an idea of the contents of that report," He told Jamila Mohammed and Lincoln Njogu.
President Kenyatta had on Friday, November 15, clarified that he had not come across the BBI report which was finalised on October 23, and reported to have been tabled before the president.
“I do not know the contents of the BBI report yet I hear people claiming Uhuru Kenyatta wants to become the Prime Minister of Kenya. I wouldn’t mind being in leadership in such a post, though let us deal with the current situation first,” Kenyatta stated on November 14.
Raila had also denied having knowledge of what is contained in the BBI report.
Speaking at Pendukiani village in Kilifi County during the burial of Michael Ngumbao Jola on October 19, 2019, Raila told off critics of the BBI who he claimed had started traversing the country campaigning against a report that they were yet to see.
“Some people have already started going across the country campaigning against the BBI even before the contents are out. Uhuru and Raila do not know what is contained in the report; who are you to say you know?” he posed to the mourners.
Gachuri, however, saw these remarks as a farce, stating that the president, especially, was privy to so much information that the idea that he could not have come across the BBI report was simply ridiculous.
"Even before the KCPE results are released, the president has information about them, what about the BBI report? You cannot tell me that the two are just shooting blindly. It is clear that they have an idea about it." he posed.
