Sonko's Message Celebrating Men's Day Splits Kenyans

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Tuesday, November 19, raised eyebrows after sending a somewhat strange message celebrating International Men's Day.

Taking to social media, the flamboyant governor noted that the boy-child deserved respect in the contemporary society but never failed to point out his misgivings.

In a rather unusual piece of advice to women, the governor intimated that men had become too comfortable and even offered them (women) phone numbers to call when they realise something was amiss.

"Boychild must be accorded with the respect he deserves...men should stop pretending that this is the reality on the ground about us men of today's world. We carry a very heavy load on our shoulders: Wives, partners, spouses, kids, parents, relatives, in-laws, workers.

"And women, you should not be lied to, ask your man which category you fall in and if something is amiss, contact our private investigation office," adviced Sonko.

As much as a number of online users supported Sonko's take on the men's international day, some outrightly disagreed with him.

"Mike Sonko, I think we need to make you our next chairman as Mzee Kibor tenure has remained only with one year. You'll be tasked with chairing all our Men's conference meetings and drafting our manifesto," shared James Mwangi.

Some men, however, took issue with the governor's statement arguing that there are were outdated principles in the society aimed at oppressing men.

"Ati private investigators...Sonko unataka boma ziharibike (What do you mean private investigators... Sonko, do you want to split families)," shared another user.
