Reason Police Postponed Autopsy on Ex-KDF Major's Murdered Family

An autopsy which was to be carried out on the bodies of three family members former Kenya Defence Forces Major Peter Mugure was accused of killing, was postponed on Tuesday, November 19.

According to a report by Citizen Digital, the police resorted to the move to give them ample time to carry out conclusive investigations into the matter.

The autopsy was to take place at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary on November 18.

Mugure is the main suspect in the murder of his wife, Joyce Syombua, and two children, Shanice Maua, 10, and Prince Michael, 5.

The development comes just a day after a Nanyuki court allowed the police to detain the former military officer for  21 days, pending investigations.

On Monday, November 18, medical reports from his Army Base in Nanyuki revealed that he may have been suffering from chronic depression.

His mates at the Nanyuki Airbase claimed that they noticed a drastic change in Mugure ever since he crashed a plane during a training exercise.

"In one instance while he was still stationed at the airbase, I chanced upon him. He was standing motionless out in the yard, just gazing into the abyss, yet it was raining heavily. He stood there for over 30 minutes," one of his former colleagues stated at the time.

Bodies of the three were found buried in a shallow grave within Thingithu Estate in Nanyuki, after the arrest of Major Mugure on Saturday, November 16.

It is believed that the discovery was made after the suspect led the police to where the bodies were buried.
