Turkana County officials led by Governor Josphat Nanok on Friday, November 29 stepped in to help victims of the West Pokot landslide tragedy that left several dead and many others displaced.
The team of delegates from Turkana brought with them donations of food and over 200 pieces of mosquito nets to curb cases of malaria that may arise from the heavy rains and floods.
West Pokot Governor John Lonyang'apuo, through Facebook, thanked Nanok for the support.
"Good neighbours are God-sent. Today, I hosted a delegation from Turkana County led by Governor Josphat Nanok," Lonyangapuo posted.
"They brought with them 216 bags of maize, 43 bags of beans, 46 jerrycans of 20-liter cooking oil, 200 pieces of mosquito nets and 50 cartons of fresh milk for victims of landslides. The milk was donated by the business community in Lodwar," he added.
The two county bosses toured the affected areas along the Kitale-Kapenguria-Lodwar Highway which connects West Pokot and Turkana counties.
Aid from Turkana comes after Lonyang'apuo called upon members of the public to donate what they could manage to help the victims of the tragedy.
The West Pokot governor expressed his gratitude to every person and entity that had made efforts to donate towards helping the flood victims.
He delivered special gratitude to the Kenya Red Cross team which had been on the ground since the tragedy struck.
"The team (Kenya Red Cross) has been on the ground since the tragedy occurred and am greatly indebted to them," Lonyang'apuo stated.
"I also received donations comprising food and nonfood items from Karenger High School, Sign of Hope, Free Presbyterian Africa and employees of the Parliamentary Service Commission. I am deeply touched by this kind gesture and on behalf of the people of West Pokot, I pass my gratitude to all well-wishers for their overflowing aid and messages of goodwill," he added.
