Sonko Confuses Nairobians With Swanky Photos Amidst Tragedy

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on the morning of Sunday, December 1, found himself on the receiving end after posting kingly photos of himself just hours after rains wreaked havoc in the city.

In the Facebook post, the governor confused city residents with a message that outlined helplines for those in distress while accompanying it with 27 images of him seated in a room filled with golden materials and sculptures.

In one of the photos, he is seated next to a golden sculpture of a lion overlooking a lavish dining table dotted with golden utensils.

From the pictures, the table can hold more than 20 people in one sitting.

Our background check on the listed hotline revealed that some of the phones, bearing the governor's name, were switched off while some went unanswered.

A representative from the governor's communication team who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, however, declined to share more details about the opulent photos claiming that it was beside the point.

Seemingly confused Kenyans took to social media to bash the governor claiming that the city was facing dire flooding while he was showing off his luxurious life.

"Thank you, my governor, but it's not always wise to 'pour food as the hungry watch'," posted a supporter.

"What's the connection between the emergency lines and pictures of your gold decked meeting room. The flooded CBD is virtually "unwalkable" whenever it rains," criticised Joe Kariuki.

A relentless downpour of rainfall across the capital left a trail of destruction across the city after motorists were left stranded as the raging floods rendered most of the major roads impassable.

"The road section along Thika Super Highway between NYS Headquarters and Muthaiga police station is completely submerged after the overnight rains," James Nyaga (a Thika road commuter) stated while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke.

The situation at Parklands area was even worse, with emergency response teams called in to salvage the situation, after the floods hit Aga Khan Hospital.
