Weatherman Issues Fresh Warning on Heavy Rains

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday, November 25, sent out a warning regarding a sustained downpour across the country over the following few weeks.

According to the alert, the southern half of the country would continue to experience heavy rainfall, with the experts estimating that existing weather patterns would be prevailing until December 2, 2019.

"Over the Northeast and the Northwest, rainfall amounts are likely to reduce as the forecast period progresses giving way to mainly sunny conditions," read a section of the report.

The Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Central and South Rift Valley are expected to experience showers throughout the day, and night showers coupled with thunderstorms.

Kenya Met Department also predicted a sunny second half of the week for the Northwestern part of the country.

Steady rainfall over the one week forecast period is expected over the capital Nairobi, with most mornings expected to be cloudy, with Coastal towns expected to experience similar conditions.

The statement came just two days after the tragic West Pokot County landslides, where by Monday, November 25, the death toll had risen to at least 42, with several residents still unaccounted for.

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday joined Jubilee Party leaders, Kipchumba Murkomen, Aaron Cheruiyot, McDonald Mariga, and Oscar Sudi to condole with the families of the victims of the deadly landslides.

He went on to supervise various operations to relocate and cater to the needs of the affected families which was being carried out by the national and local government as well as the Kenya Red Cross Society.

In yet another sorrowful incident, five family members were killed after the matatu they were travelling in was swept away by flashfloods at Ngatataek area of Kajiado County, Citizen Digital reported.
