The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has made major headway in the investigations into the brutal murder of Rai Cement general manager Chetan Vyas on Sunday, September 22.
In an update posted on Twitter, on Tuesday, December 2, the DCI announced that three suspects who had been on the run since the tycoon's death had been nabbed.
"Three more suspects directly linked to the murder of Chetan Vyas were yesterday arrested at Njoro, Nakuru County by homicide detectives, who also recovered the suspected murder weapon and items stolen from the victim's house on the fateful day," the DCI wrote.
The three were identified as 35-year-old Julius Odundo Jowi, a carpenter at Rai Cement Company, 34-year-old Joseph Mureithi, a former security guard working with Comply Company, in Nakuru, and 25-year-old Steven Odhiambo, an operator at Comply Company.
The DCI had been in pursuit of the three since the CCTV footage recovered on September 24, showed the suspects breaking into the house moments before the Rai general manager was murdered.
In addition to the arrests, the DCI also announced that they had recovered the clothes that the suspects had worn when the CCTV cameras captured them at the scene of the crime.
The sleuths also recovered two mobile phones that were used to communicate at the scene, an iron box and a briefcase belonging to the deceased.
An axe that is also suspected to be the murder weapon was also recovered in the suspects' hideout in Nakuru County.
The three are set to be arraigned in court on Monday, December 2, on murder charges.
The arrest brings the number of suspects nabbed following the murder to eight, in addition to five other suspects nabbed on October 5, 2019.
