Liza Njeri Mucheru Wisner was born in Kenya in 1980 and studied at the Brookhouse School, she travelled to the United States at the age of 19 on a golf scholarship, representing Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s team.
According to her own website, her fame came in 2010 when she featured in the American show The Apprentice that was hosted by US President Donald Trump.
Despite being fired from the show on December 12, 2010, Mucheru had gotten the attention of the billionaire.
"Liza you are brilliant in every way but you are fired," Trump stated at the end of Mucheru's journey on the show.
She had joined the program in order to save her business which was about to go under because of recession and after the show, she commanded respect for finishing third and companies now wanted to invest in her initiative.
Mucheru began her entrepreneurial journey as the founder of Texas Techies and PowerUp, successful organizations, which deliver science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to economically disadvantaged communities.
Power Up was set up to raise funds for projects aimed at making educational opportunities available to individuals all over the world.
She expanded her organizations globally to include mobile entrepreneurship labs, animation programming competitions, and youth leadership camps.
Trumps' organisation saw an opportunity to work with the brilliant Kenyan and took a chance to be one of the major sponsors of her projects.
With the funds collected from the sponsors, Liza has been able to donate computers to schools across the world including Kenya.
She has also built water tanks for schools over and above having a technology competition for children in Texas dubbed the 'Super Texas Techies'.
Mucheru is also a motivational speaker and was the keynote speaker at the Texas Business Women meeting in 2019.
She is a Coastal Bend CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) partner, Corpus Christi Metro Ministries ambassador, Junior Achievement board member, and a Magna Cum Laude National Scholars Honor Society member.
She received the Texas A&M University’s 2010 Employee Excellence Award, the 2009 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce, the 2011 Jamhuriwood Ambassadorship Award, and in 2010, was awarded a certificate of commendation from the City of Corpus Christi mayor.
Mucheru is married to Denis Wisner and they live in Texas with three sons, Zaleik, Zamar and Zakai, and their dog Ziggy.
