Trump's Govt Declares Stand on BBI Report

The United States government has thrown its weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report that was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on November 27.

On Monday, December 16, US ambassador Kyle McCarter while speaking in Kapsabet, Nandi County, stated that the government, led by President Donald Trump, would support the implementation of the BBI report.

This, he explained would aid in maintaining unity before the 2022 general election.

"The United States is a great friend of Kenya and, although I do not agree with all the details in the BBI, the USA fully supports it for Kenya to remain a united country," he was quoted by the Daily Nation.

McCarter also expressed his support for devolution adding that they would work closely with heads of devolved units in Kenya to spur meaningful growth and development.

The ambassador was in the region where he was inspecting development projects accompanied by his wife Victoria, Nandi Deputy Governor Yulita Mitei, Health Executive Ruth Koech and Land Executive Philemon Bureti.

During a visit to Nyamira on December 5, McCarter argued stated that devolution was more responsive than traditional centralised systems.

"We advocate for governments which are close to people because they are more responsive," he stated while paying a courtesy call to Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama.

He noted that the county was endowed with a lot of opportunities pledging to work with Governor Nyagarama's leadership by supporting agriculture, health, clean energy among other sectors.

"We shall support farmers to get value of their inputs. US will support agriculture, health, clean energy among others," he stated.
