KCSE 2019: Best Performing Students [LIST]

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, on Wednesday, December 18, released the highly anticipated 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) results.

Below are the top 10 students announced by Magoha.

1. Buruma Tony - Kapsabet Boys - 87.159

2. Barasa Maryanne Njeri - Kenya High School - 87.087

3. Aboke David - Kapsabet Boys - 87.085

4. Antony Owuor Ochieng - Maseno High School - 87.000

5. Mathuri Natasha Wawira - Kenya High School - 86.961

6. Kizito Esther - Kenya High School - 86.960

7. Long'ari Chelagat - Alliance High School - 86.924

8. Hellen Njoki - Kenya High School - 86.914

9. Irene Chelagat - Moi Forces Lanet - 86.900

10. Laura Chelangat Ruto- St. Brigids High School -86.53

The results were released three days earlier than the 2018 exam and 51 per cent were male and 49 female

Performance of English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology and Physics subjects experienced a significant increase. Female students performed better than their male counterparts in various subjects including English.

627 candidates scored A plain. 5,796 scored A-, while those with C+ (minimum grade for direct university entry) shot to 125, 746 compared to 90,377 in 2018.

The 2019 national exams ran from Monday, November 4 till Wednesday, November 27, and was done by 699,745 candidates. 

On Monday, December 16, members of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) board held a meeting to approve the results before they presented them to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
