Uhuru’s Bag of Goodies for Gladys Wanga to Benefit Homa Bay Residents

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga on Tuesday, December 17,  lauded the national government’s efforts to initiate water projects in the county, which has for a long time experienced water shortage.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, December 17, Wanga indicated that the current wave of development projects in the county was actualized through the goodwill of the national government in alleviating the living standards of locals.

“Inspecting ongoing works at Gorogoro Dam, Suba North which I lobbied from the national government alongside Pap Ndege in Homa Bay Town and Pap Kamenya in South Kabuoch, Ndhiwa.

“The perennial water problems of these communities will be alleviated,” read the tweet.

On November 15, 2019, Wanga hosted Water Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu and Kenya Water Institute Chairperson Wavinya Ndeti in Rangwe Constituency for the launch of water projects which were constructed at a cost of Ksh80.8 million.

“The government is committed to undertaking more projects to eradicating water problems in this county. The projects include the ones whose construction is ongoing in Rangwe and other parts of the county and their funds are derived from the current financial year,” remarked Irungu as quoted by The Standard.

The newspaper on November 16 had reported that Wanga and other local leaders present reiterated that the projects were a result of cooperation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The projects were undertaken by the Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Sanitation through the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency.

In the list of other programmes that would benefit from the fund were Sindo Water Supply Project in Suba South Constituency and Got Kabok Primary School Water Supply Project in Rangwe Constituency.

The water project at Sindo was estimated to have a capacity of providing 1,800 cubic meters of clean and safe water per day.  It is designed to serve a population of 12,000 people.

The Gorogoro Dam will serve residents in Suba North and Ndhiwa constituencies.

On the other hand, the Ksh10 million Got Kabok project will serve learning institutions and the surrounding community with clean water.
