The government through Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata gave residents of Lamu County an ultimatum of seven days to produce the killers of a chief and his assistant.
In a video shared by Daily Nation, he urged the residents to forward the names of individuals suspected to have been involved in the brutal killing of the duo, failure to which the government would be forced to intervene.
"If you know of someone who hasn't been mentioned please mention them before we come," Elungata stated during a public Barraza in Mbwaiumwali Village, where the slain administrators served.
The regional commissioner however assured that his team would not randomly go after the villagers but rather target those they suspected to be tied to the murders.
Elungata claimed to be in possession of a list that had the names of wanted individuals but gave the residents an opportunity to be open with the government.
He promised that the expiry of seven days, he would go after every individual on the list without discrimination.
"After the seven days I will read the list and if your name appears and you were in this meeting your punishment will be double," he added.
The commissioner additionally noted that the chief and his assistant were murdered in broad daylight, in the presence of witnesses.
"We can not be law-abiding citizens if we witness a crime and say nothing about it. If a man wears a buibui and you see him, you will definitely know that is a man," he concluded his speech.
Reports first published by Daily Nation on December 11, revealed that their mutilated bodies were discovered inside their offices in Mbwajumali Village, Lamu East Constituency.
Initial reports claimed that the two were hacked to death by a gang linked to illicit drug trafficking, barely two months after a police officer died in a similar circumstance.
