Missing County Furniture Found With Ousted Speaker

Kisumu county has found itself in a new battle with impeached speaker Onyango Oloo after it emerged that the furniture missing from his office and residence was actually in his possession.

The Standard on Thursday, December 19 reported that county officials were surprised to find the house empty with only one table left.

It would later emerge that Oloo had carried all the furniture worth over Ksh2 million that the county assembly had bought for the house rented for the speaker.

Acting assembly clerk Owen Ojuok reported the matter to the Kisumu central police station under OB59/12/2019 as they had initially thought the furniture had been stolen.

According to a report by Citizen Digital on Wednesday, December 18, the missing items, cabinets, executive sofa sets, executive bed, TV and other furniture all belonged to the County Government of Kisumu as they had been bought by the county.

The county officials had visited the house in a bid to hand it over to the new speaker after Oloo was impeached by the county assembly and the decision upheld by the industrial court.

In an explanation, Oloo claimed that the furniture had been bought for him as the speaker and alleged that his predecessors did not hand over any furniture.

"I removed the items from the house as they had already withdrawn security from the premise and it was a rented house. if they want me to return them I will or they can calculate the value of depreciation so I compensate," stated the ousted speaker.
