The top female candidate in 2019 KCSE, Barasa Maryanne Njeri, hails from a family of great minds.
Njeri, who scored an A of 87.159 points, was a student at Kenya High School and the second-best candidate in the 2019 national examinations.
In the numerous interviews she has given after her academic triumph, she has attributed her success to hard work and a great support system.
“I believed I would do well since I had done my part perfectly but I have to admit that I didn’t expect to be the second top student.
“I am beyond overwhelmed at this achievement. My teachers and family have played a great part to get me here," she stated.
Her achievement might, however, have been anticipated by her family given the profile of her siblings who too have great achievers.
Her sister, Agnes Barasa, could not hide her joy when she learned of her sister's achievements, disclosing that other members of the family had also done well in various capacities.
Taking to her social media pages, an exhilarated Agnes congratulated her sister while pointing out other great achievements in the family within a one-month period.
"First my brother gets into Harvard Business School, my other brother the highest performer in SAT Kenya 2019, now my sister is Kenya’s Top Girl, what a month," she wrote.
Classic FM presenter Carol Radull, who is known to the family, congratulated them while acknowledging the unique gifts.
"As smart as my pal Agnes Barasa is; she used to tell me that she isn't even the smartest in her family! Now I finally believe her!" she stated.
