President William Ruto's administration has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's allegations, in which he claimed there was a plot to poison him with chemical weapons.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, during an interview on TV47, refuted the claims, terming Gachagua's remarks as "smear allegations" that were "highly inciteful" and aimed at evoking the emotions of Kenyans.

Mwaura went on to accuse the former DP of attempting to popularise his newly launched political party by allegedly inciting Kenyans against the current administration.

According to him, the government was in no way interested in taking away Gachagua's life, adding that Ruto's administration was committed to protecting every Kenyan, regardless of their political position or role in society.

"If you are a law-abiding citizen, you don't have to worry. These are just smear allegations that are very highly inciteful to stock emotions, and therefore, they should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve," Mwaura stated.

"Now you see some people have launched a new political party, now they must create a momentum around it, and people are very hoodwinked by that, the government is in no way interested in that, we want to protect the life of every citizen," he added.

While reiterating the government's stance on the matter, Mwaura termed Gachagua's allegations as outrageous and laughable, emphasising that the government's role was to maintain law and order.

The Government Spokesperson further reiterated that action would only be taken against corrupt leaders and those inciting Kenyans into violence.

"The government is there to maintain law and order. The government will only come to you if you are not able to account for your actions. For example, if you are a corrupt leader, if you are an inciter, and also seeking political mileage by declaring very outrageous statements," he emphasised.

Mwaura's clarification comes hours after Gachagua alleged a plot by the government's top security agencies to eliminate him over his strong stance against Ruto's administration.

Addressing the press on Monday, May 19, the former DP claimed he received an intelligence report suggesting that the Head of State had ordered security agencies to deal with him decisively, 'once and for all.'

"While attending a church service in Gatanga Constituency yesterday, I received intelligence reports that there were orders to have me dealt with once and for all," Gachagua claimed.

"We received further intelligence from the deployed patriotic officers who were not in agreement with the evil mission that they had clear instructions to plant arms and weapons in our convoy to provide evidence to arrest us and get evidence that they could charge us with in court," he added.
