Drivers have been warned of rising insecurity at the Kamandura junction underpass on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association issued an alert after a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed a driver stuck after being attacked by thieves at night.

In the footage, the thieves disconnected the lorry's battery and interfered with its brakes to stall it, as they harassed the driver.

The driver was forced to stop the truck as the thieves threatened to harm him. The driver was left scared, fearing for his life following the attack.

The association on Tuesday, May 20, urged all drivers to exercise caution when approaching the Kamandura underpass, especially at night.

“Insecurity Alert. Drivers, be aware of the Kamandura Underneath bridge that is in a deplorable state and thieves are taking advantage,” the association stated.

They recommend avoiding the area if possible and reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

This incident also comes after a driver bus travelling to Western Kenya, using the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, sustained injuries after armed robbers attacked his bus in Limuru on May 15, 2024. Several passengers were also injured.

The bus left Nairobi around 9 pm and was destined for Kimilili when the incident happened, forcing the driver to flee.

According to witnesses, the robbers were travelling in a car ahead of the bus, which was used to obstruct the bus before the thugs smashed the windscreen, forcing the driver to stop.

The robbers then attacked the driver first, forcing him to flee with injuries before turning on the passengers and stealing their valuables.

"Two robbers were armed with knives and a taser. They beat passengers demanding their phones, money and other valuables," the witness stated.
