Uhuru Rewards Ex-Nyeri Minister With Plum Job

Ex-Nyeri CEC for Agriculture Henry Gichuhi Kinyua has been appointed Chairman of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU).

In a gazette notice dated December 20, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that he had appointed Kinyua to the position for a period of one year.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Henry Gichuhi Kinyua to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union, for a period of one (1) year, with effect from the 18th December 2019," the gazette notice read.

Kinyua resigned from his post as CEC after landing a job with an international agricultural firm named Digital Green based in the USA, after which the Governor Mutahi Kahiga named James Wachihi Muturi as his replacement.

His appointment means that he would be the first-ever to head the docket which was newly launched on December 19, 2019 after Uhuru's meeting with the cabinet, as State House announced.

"The Cabinet meeting, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, also approved the coming into operation of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) as well as the immediate operationalization of the Coffee Cherry Advance Revolving Fund," a post from the President's Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) announced.

In the gazette notice, the Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade, and Co-operatives Peter Munya appointed other individuals including Simeon Thuranira and Viola Mukami to be members of the Board of Directors for the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union, to work under Kinyua.

Joyce Muthoni Wangari, Sebastian Maina, Anthony Nzau, Michael Mwirigi, and Josephine Kemunto were also appointed to the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union board.

Some Kenyans were also recognized for their outstanding contribution to the state, including the Kieni MP Kanini Kega, PS Nelson Marwa, EACC's Twalib Mubarak, PS Kevit Desai, and MP Millie Odhiambo, all of whom were bestowed with the First Class: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), alongside 23 others.

President Kenyatta also awarded the Second Class: Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (E.B.S.) to 45  Kenyans, including Rose Museo, Professor Adams Oloo, Maisoon Leshomo, Bishop Peter Njenga, Major retired John Seii and the Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya.
