Kenyan Aircraft Suffers Mid-air Incident

At around 11.10 am on Friday, December 20, a Jambojet plane bound for Diani Airport was forced to reroute to Mombasa International Airport.

The airline, in a statement on its official social media pages, stated the aircraft encountered an unexpected incident midair.

"The aircraft was hit by a bird strike," Jambojet announced.

"All the passengers and crew landed in Mombasa safely at 11.35 am and the aircraft was scheduled for assessment by an engineering team from the airline," the communication continued.

Following the incident, Jambojet issued an apology for the incident and promised remedy for the inconvenience.

"We are organising to rebook the affected passengers on the next available flights, to ensure minimal disruption to their travel plans.

"We apologise for the inconvenience that may arise and the request for your continued patience and understanding," the statement concluded.

Kenya is no stranger to bird strikes and a number of airlines have played victim to the creatures.

On July 18, Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority attributed the high number of birds in the around airports to the country's geographic location.

"Bird species increase from the temperate region towards the equator and from the coast to optimal levels as altitude increases," KAA noted in a statement.
