Five family members succumbed to death after a fire ravaged their house on Wednesday night, December 25 in Gakuyu village in Mathira, Nyeri County.
The fire that reportedly broke out at 2 a.m claimed the lives of the family of a man, his wife, two sons and a relative who had paid them a visit during the festive season.
The victims have since been identified as Charles Maina Miano, 34, his wife Grace Gathoni, 28, their two sons Kevin Miano, 7, Simon Maina, 4, their niece Susan Gathoni.
According to Daily Nation, though burnt beyond recognition, the bodies of the victims were found on their respective beds showing no signs of efforts to escape by any of the family members.
Area Chief Samuel Mukemba stated that the cause of the fire was still a mystery.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mathira East DCC Patrick Meso revealed that the police had initiated an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
