A statement by ODM leader Raila Odinga over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) appears to have touched Deputy President William Ruto raw nerve.
The DP took to Twitter to express his displeasure over the fact that the ODM leader appealed to Kenyans to be patient as he( Raila) and President Uhuru Kenyatta worked on the BBI document.
"Boss, the last time I checked Kenya was the collective business of the 47m of us. When did it become yours, for the rest of us to be patient with you, as you decide what is good for us," the DP tweeted.
The DP further claimed that former prime minister had allocated himself more powers than he actually had and that he needed to show those elected a little respect.
"Yaani sasa imefika hapo (Has it now gotten to that point)? Please, a little decency and respect is not much to ask of you ndugu (brother)," he added.
The DP was responding to a request by the African Union envoy on December 25 at the Nyamira ACK church seeking Kenyans to have patience as President Uhuru Kenyatta and himself worked on transforming the country.
Odinga was recalling how he and President Kenyatta spent close to 19 hours intense negotiations that led to the historic handshake.
He claimed that it took hours of phone calls before they finally met face-to-face at the president’s Harambee House office.
The ODM leader stated that it took even more hours before agreeing to appear before cameras for the firm handshake that also gave birth to the BBI.
“We want to thank Kenyans for standing with us against all odds. It will take time for us to get where we want to be, but we are on track,” stated Odinga.
He claimed that even the people who had been criticising BBI had changed tune after they saw the document, noting that implementation of some of its recommendations will begin next year.
