National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) newly appointed Vice-chairperson Fatuma S. Tabwara passed on Sunday, December 29 after collapsing during a wedding ceremony.
She is reported to have collapsed at the wedding of the child of one of the women MCAs in Kombani, Kwale county and taken to Diani Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An official at the commission confirmed to Capital FM, "It is true we have lost her. She was pronounced dead on arrival in hospital but we do not have more details on the exact cause of death.”
The family of the deceased disclosed to K24 Digital that Fatuma would be laid to rest on Monday in accordance with Islamic rituals.
Fatuma was part of the new team that took over from the Francis Ole Kaparo-led team after being sworn in by Chief Justice David Maraga at the Supreme Court on November 21.
Samuel Kobia was appointed the chairperson with Fatuma as his vice-chairperson. Other commissioners also sworn in were, Dorcas Kadogo, Samuel Ekona, Philip Okundi and Danvas Makori.
Commissioner Fatuma S. Tabwara held a Masters in Education Planning and Administration from Mount Kenya University and a Bachelors Degree in Education from Kenyatta University.
She had been a Political and Policy Advisor at the Office of the Governor of Kwale County.
She had experience in community mobilization, women and youth empowerment programs.
Tabwara participated in the formation of sexual harassment policy in the Kwale County Government among other various leadership roles.
