Worshippers Find Dead Man in Church After Kesha

A 44-year-old man was on Wednesday morning, January 1, found dead inside a church in Trans Nzoia County.

The Daily Nation was the first to report that William Kariuki's body was found lying on the floor at 5 a.m., by worshippers of the Full Gospel Church in Kibomet, checked in for morning prayers.

The worshippers thought that Kariuki was sleeping but several attempts to wake him up proved futile.

“We tried to wake him up but he was not responding. We then alerted police,” one of the worshippers told The Standard.

Kwanza OCPD Alphonse Kimanzi confirmed the incident stating that Kariuki had attended New Year celebrations in the church on Tuesday, December 31.

“We got information at around 5.30 a.m. that a man had been found dead inside a church.

“We suspect he might have fallen asleep in the process and was left behind. Our preliminary investigations indicate he was intoxicated,” Kimanzi stated.

Further, he disclosed that investigations had been launched to establish what caused his death.

“A postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death. The body was taken to Mt Elgon Hospital mortuary,” he concluded.
