Death Strikes Sonko's Family in New Year

Embattled Nairobi governor Mike Sonko is in mourning following the passing on of a close relative on January 4, 2020.

Sonko took to social media to condole the death of his cousin, Dida Hadija Hamisi, hailing her for her contribution and joy she brought the family.

"It’s with heartfelt condolences that I learn the passing on of my cousin, Dida Hadija Hamisi, daughter to my late Mum's sister this morning," Sonko condoled.

"Dida was an instrumental person to our family. She was committed to her work, businesses, and wellbeing of other family members," he added.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Nairobi county communications director Jacob Elkana revealed that the governor and his family were in preparation to give her a proper send-off.

"The governor is in grief, and the family is partaking in all the necessary preparations to ensure she gets a proper send-off," Elkana stated.

"She was Muslim, so she will be laid to rest today," he revealed.

Being a member of the Islam community, Dida would be laid to rest on January 4, at 4 pm at the Kikowani cemetary in Mombasa county.

Kenyans online joined in on sending their heartfelt condolences to the governor's family.

"Pole sana kakangu, my prayers are with you and your entire family. God will give peace and endurance during this difficulty moments," one Onesmus Musili condoled.

"Sorry for the loss Mr governor. Feel comforted and may the soul of your cousin rest in perfect peace," Elizabeth Mumo added.
