Moha Jicho Pevu Makes History With New Move

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali wrote history in his constituency after launching the first girls' secondary school in the region.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, January 7, Ali revealed that he had decided to take the step after seeing that many girls in the region were dropping out of school due to teenage pregnancies and early marriages.

"The only way we could do it was by building a girls' school so that they could get the proper space away from disturbances from the many men intent on ruining their futures," he stated.

Ali also set the record straight about the choice of name for the institution.

"We decided on the name after intense public participation. When I told the residents that I was building a girls' school, the residents decided that my name should be the name of the institution since it was the first time such a school was existing since independence," he spoke.

The team behind the name collected signatures from residents as a means of public participation and were then taken to the Ministry of Education which approved the name.

More school are expected to pop up in the area in line with the MP's plan.

"We are also opening Kongowea Mixed Secondary School on January 13. When I came into power, there were only two secondary schools in the region. One was Maweni, a boys school, and Mombasa (school) for the physically handicapped. A population of 300,000 had only one school," he informed.

He stated that with time, however, he has opened two and is also in the process of building two more before the end of the year.

"All schools are fully funded by the CDF. We do not spend time on 'hullabaloo' and social media politics. Our politics is that of the people at the grassroots. If you come to Nyali today, you will realize that the region has undergone an intense transformation," he gushed.

Mombasa County Communications Director Richard Chacha confirmed claims by the Nyali legislator that the girls' school was the first of its kind in Nyali.

He, however, insisted that there were more schools of the same nature spread across Mombasa County in general, though not in Nyali.
