Waiguru Takes BBI Meeting by Storm

Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru was received by ODM leader Raila Odinga at Kisii Sports Club for a BBI consultative meeting which drew leaders from Nyanza on Friday, January 10, 2020.

In photos shared to Kenyans.co.ke, Waiguru was seen in the company o Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, as well as Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

"As leaders from the Lake Region Bloc we reaffirm our support for the report and we shall mobilize our citizenry to participate in enriching the report,” Kisii governor James Ongwae was quoted by Citizen Digital .

Interestingly, Waiguru was notably the only governor elected on a Jubilee ticket that was present at the forum.

The Kirinyanga governor has always maintained her support for the initiative, insisting that it was key to the development of the country.

Waiguru maintained that the Mount Kenya region was firmly in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding those crisscrossing area and think they can divide the region were in for a rude shock.

"You can rent a Kikuyu, but you can not buy one," Waiguru stated.

The governor stated that Inclusivity was the solution to the elections violence cycle in the country. Waiguru urged that upon implementation of the report, two seats be reserved for women.

Several representatives from the Senate, the National Assembly, and county assemblies from across the country graced the event.

Also in attendance were all Nyanza governors,  Ali Hassan Joho of Mombasa, Wycliffe Oparanya of Kakamega, Amason Kingi of Kilifi and Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni.

ODM Chair John Mbadi, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion was also present.

The BBI consultative forums are expected to continue throughout the first quarter of 2020 with subsequent others scheduled for various parts of the country.

The Kisii meeting will be closely followed by similar at Bukhungu Stadium on January 18, as informed by ODM's Edwin Sifuna in a press conference on January 9.
