The Kenya Police Service has transferred over 61 top-ranking police officers in a move that has affected Nairobi, Western and North Eastern regions. KPS transferred and promoted Sub County Police Commanders, making sweeping changes in the administration of Sub Counties.
Daily Nation was first to report that over 100 Sub Counties in the 47 counties were affected by the move, announced by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Kenya Police Service Edward Mbugua.
“The Deputy Inspector General approves the deployments with immediate effect” a confidential circular dated January 14 reportedly issued to all eight Regional Police Commanders, the Internal affairs Unit and heads of formation read.
Further affected are nine Assistant Superintendents of Police who were promoted to serve as deputy Sub County Police Commanders.
Among the changes include, transfer of Cunnigham Suiyanka, from to Turkana West, Adan Abdullahi Alio from Muhoroni to Mwea West, Joseph Gichangi from Meru to Machakos County.
Among those promoted to serve as Deputy, County Commanders include Peter Katam (Kakamega), Richard Cheruiyot (Vihiga) and Joseph Kipngeno Cheruiyot (Busia).
Stephen Weda (Bomet), Peter Nyangares Omanwa (Migori), Wambia Odhiambo (Nyamira), and Benjamin Mwanzia (Kajiado)
The police bosses are expected to assume their new offices immediately and initiate a fight against terrorism, criminal gangs and banditry.
IG Mutyambai further directed the senior officers to ensure that their juniors are motivated and desist away from corruption.
