Jubilee Party digital strategist and journalist Dennis Itumbi cried foul over the police in Kakamega County to cancel the planned parallel BBI rally that was set to be held in Mumias on January 18, 2020.
Taking to his social media platforms on Thursday, January 16, Itumbi faulted the decision to revoke the permit for the meeting arguing the security concerns cited by the police were unfounded.
He pointed an accusing finger at senior Harambee House officials claiming that they were behind the cancellation for their own political convenience.
"So the National Police Service wants us to believe that they cannot secure two meetings 30 kilometers apart in Kakamega County? In Kibra just the other day, we had four big meetings two kilometers away from each other and security was provided. This is politics Harambee House Prefects style," he tweeted.
In the angry rant, Itumbi tagged the US Ambassador to Kenya, The UK Ambassador to Kenya and Amnesty International possibly attempting to attract their intervention.
The move by the police drew condemnation from many quarters, especially those allied to DP William Ruto, notable of them being former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who dismissed the cancellation as an affront to the constitutional rights of Kenyans.
The decision ellicited mixed reactions from Kenyans online with opinioned divided into pro-BBI and anti-BBI factions.
"When the government you are serving was in power and oppressing the opposition you cheered them. When they reported to foreign envoys about the oppression you called them western stooges. I can see now you have become a western stooge. Please tell us how it feels," Alfred Okudo posed.
"These are the same people you were vehemently defending not so long ago. We are completing this journey with Uhuru Kenyatta!" Blue Champion mocked.
"We have them in thousands at APTC, Kiganjo and GSU, depending on the Intel you've got. The president himself walks around with more than what you stated. Despots and tyrants must fall," Chris Gikundi supported Itumbi.
"The two meetings should be allowed to go on, life will go on. As usual, they will speak and retire to their own homesteads and Kenya will continue paying Chinese debts," Ken Waswa added.
