Uhuru, Joho Bring City to a Standstill

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho brought Mombasa City to a standstill on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

President Kenyatta and Governor Joho had shown up at the much famed Barka Restaurant,  a Swahili eatery in the CBD, Mombasa for a meal.

Immediately word got out that the two were holed up in the restaurant alongside other leaders, curious onlookers flooded the streets and waited for the leaders to emerge.

Uhuru, who is visiting the restaurant for the second time, shook hands with the people who had gathered by the roadside before he was whisked away to other event in the region.

President Kenyatta, during the outing, was accompanied by other leaders among them Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, PS Karanja Kibicho and a host of other leaders from the region.

According to a report by The Standard on January 13, he has been at State House, Mombasa since December 29, 2019.

Uhuru has also been conducting his official activities from the official Mombasa residence, including the Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, January 14. 

The president has also reportedly conducted high-profile meetings with other senior officials with a view to streamlining the functioning of the government.

Some of the leaders that Uhuru has met in the region include Interior CS Matiang'i, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

Matiang'i has also been in Mombasa alongside his PS, Kibicho, where they were attending the tenth anniversary of the East African Marine Systems.
