EACC Arrests Ngilu's Aides in Ksh891 Million Scandal

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission arrested senior officials from the County Government of Kitui over allegations of fraudulent practices in procurement and alleged abuse of office on Thursday, January 16.

In a press statement that was released by EACC, informed that the arrests were effected after investigations. 

"The EACC has been conducting investigations into allegations that the Kitui County government irregularly awarded tenders for the construction of various roads and river drifts at a cost of Ksh 891,039,308 within the county," the statement read in part.

In accordance with Section 35 of the Anti Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, the EACC presented the findings of their investigations to the director of public prosecutions, after which the greenlit to make the arrests was given. 

"Upon review of the report and recommendations therein, the DPP gave consent to immediately charge the suspects with several offences including abuse of office, fraudulent practice in procurement among others," the statement read.

On Thursday, January 16, EACC arrested Finance Chief Officer June Mawiya Munyao, Tender Evaluation Committee Chairman Jeremiah Ngui Kisilu and his secretary, Rodgers Sande.

The trio was held at Machakos Police Station and would be arraigned before the Machakos AntiCorruption Court on Friday, January 17.

The commission is in the hunt for former Lands Chief Officer Shadrack Muli Munyithia and Head of Supply Chain Management Joshua Kalola Munyaka.
