Details of Uhuru's Lunch Meeting With Special Governors

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, January 15, held a lunch meeting a select number of governors at State House, Mombasa.

The president is said to have discussed a number of issues with the governors including; implementation of various projects in their counties and strengthening devolution.

In a report run by Citizen TV, Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria who attended the meeting, stated that the county and national governments had made elaborate plans on how they would work together.

Further, he added that the two levels of government would work on the implementation of the Big 4 Agenda and sustainable development.

"We knew the president was in Mombasa, hence, we decided to meet him for lunch to mark the end of the Christmas season," he Iria stated.

Among the over 20 governors present at the meeting include; Charity Ngilu (Kitui) Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), (Murang'a), Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta) and Amason Kingi (Kilifi).

A close aide to one of the governors intimated to Kenyans.co.ke that the meeting was exclusive and personal assistants were excluded from the discussions. 

A previous report by The Standard indicated that the president has been at State House, Mombasa, since December 29, 2019.

He has been conducting his official activities from the official residence, including the Cabinet reshuffle,  on Tuesday, January 14. 

The president has also reportedly conducted high-profile meetings with other senior officials to come up with strategies to streamline government operations. 

Some of the leaders that Uhuru has met in the region include Interior CS Matiang'i, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

Matiang'i has also been in Mombasa alongside his PS, Karanja Kibicho, where they were attending the tenth anniversary of the East African Marine Systems.
