Wilbroda: My Aunt Conned Me Ksh 80K in Job Scam

Jacquey Nyaminde, popularly known as Wilbroda, opened up about being swindled by a relative.

Speaking during an interview with Janjaruka in November 2019, the former Papa Shirandula narrated how her aunt, Grace, executed the well thought out scam.

Her aunt told Nyaminde's mother that she would arrange for the actress' sisters to join her at an airline where she claimed to work.

"She contacted my mother and told her that she had landed a job at a prestigious airline," the famed radio personality started.

"I know you have daughters and I have already done everything. They are already through. They just need to pay an amount of money, take photos and they'll be fine," the ex-Papa Shirandula cast member quoted her aunt.

Grace, who had years ago disappeared after her husband died, became a regular in their lives, visiting every so often.

Nyaminde would share her clothes and shoes anytime her aunt expressed a desire to rock a similar outfit or pair of heels.

"She put out a picture of someone who was doing really well so you would be sure she is doing well, like she'd have a car with a driver downstairs.

"She admitted two of my sisters and said that they had gone through and all they need to do was pay Ksh 40, 000 each. She even bought them skirt suits," the actress recalled.

After handing the aunt-turned-recruiter Ksh 80, 000 to secure her sisters' jobs, the Grace stated that there were three more vacancies.

This triggered Nyaminde's mother to make a call to her friends and convinced them to also look for Ksh 40,000 for their daughter's employment as well.

The actress' aunt arranged photo shoots for all the prospective employees in preparation to take up the would-be job.

"We were sure. We were all really excited that finally, my sisters had gotten a job. Then the other three ladies also pay her, Ksh 40, 000 each.

"We even had paperwork that looked very legit. Then we started looking for her but we couldn't find her. The number she used to call us on was not going through," Wilbroda narrated.

One day she met one of the drivers who had dropped her aunt at their house. She asked the man behind the wheel what had happened to Grace and he responded that his car had been hired and didn't know the woman, except as a one-time client.

"He said she had hired him for just one day. Can you imagine? Can you imagine?

"Let me tell you the worst thing. My sister's friend who had paid Ksh 40,000 brought police officers who took her to Lang'ata Police Station and she spent two nights there," 'Wilbroda' recalled.

Nyaminde tried explaining that her family also lost money in the plot but her sister's friend could hear none of it.

Five years after the con was executed, the endeared actress is yet to meet her aunt and in retrospect, Wilbroda felt that she should have smelled a rat before losing money.
