Kenyans woke up to mysterious banners plastered on footbridges along busy highways in Nairobi.
In the banners that have since circulated on social media, concerns were directed to the country's Judiciary, which is headed by Chief Justice David Maraga.
In one of the banners placed at a footbridge around Nyayo Stadium along Mombasa Road, the mysterious writer questions why the Akasha brothers' case made little headway in Kenya.
The brothers, Baktash Akasha, and his younger brother, Ibrahim, whose cases had a series of adjournments in Kenya, were on January 31, 2017, extradited to the United States to face charges of running an international drug trafficking operation.
"Akashas were free in Kenya for over four years with cases but were jailed in Two months by a USA court. We demand a working Judiciary free of corrupt judges now!" the banner read.
In yet another banner posted on Pangani outside Jubilee Party headquarters, the mysterious writer questioned why a majority of inmates comprised of the marginalised in the society.
"Why is the majority of inmates in Kenya the poor people? We demand a working Judiciary free of corrupt judges now!" the banner read.
Netizens on Twitter and Facebook were in support of the sentiments expressed on the banners.
"Corruption and influence in Judiciary is rampant. I can't believe that the Judiciary is doing anything to stop this. In Kenya, people with political class and the rich cannot be prosecuted. They are being bailed out by corrupt judges," Ka Iso claimed.
"One day we will get enlightened and gather all courage and we will bring up a revolution," Duncan Mainge weighed in.
"It gives me hope that at least people are waking up from the deep slumber. I am optimistic that my daughter will get to grow up in a better Kenya in the few years to come," Ben Patrick commented.
