Several Feared Dead in Horrific Matatu Accident [PHOTOS]

Several people are feared dead following a horrific accident at Maai Mahiu escarpment on Sunday, February 9.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, show the mangled wreckage of a 14-seater matatu and an overturned lorry at the middle of the road blocking traffic.

St John's Ambulance, in a statement on Twitter, confirmed that the crash was fatal though Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify at the time of publishing, the number of casualties.

Passengers in the matatu operated by the Transline Galaxy Sacco and occupants of the lorry involved in the crash appear to have been moved to hospital based on photos in our possession.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.

This comes barely a week after another grisly road accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Wednesday, January 29, involving two trucks resulted in two casualties.

Eye witness reports revealed that one of the vehicles was a Nakuru County fire truck that reportedly rammed into a  canter in Migaa area along the busy highway.

The fire truck driver reportedly lost control and ended up driving head-on into the truck which was ferrying maize from Eldoret to Nakuru.

Molo traffic boss James Gatara told the press that the canter was carrying three people; a driver, a loader and the owner of the maize.
