A University of Nairobi lecturer has been found dead in his home in Siaya County.
The body of the don, identified as Professor Gilbert Ogutu, was reported to have been found hanging on Sunday, February 6, by his employee.
Citizen TV was first to report that the body of the church history professor at UoN was found hanging with a leso tied around the neck.
The reports further indicate that the don had traveled home on Friday with his second wife, who stayed until Saturday evening before leaving for Kisumu.
The area chief told Citizen Digital that the professor had been in good spirits during the day.
The publication further indicated that the body was transferred to the Bondo Sub-county Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted
Police in the area has launched investigations into the apparent suicide.
Ogutu was a force to reckon with in the field of History and Religion given his research that has shaped opinions in the academic world.
According to the University of Nairobi staff portal, the associate professor has over 50 publications to his name.
He has also traveled the world over in his academic pursuits and has contributed his papers in reputable international conferences.
Ogut also was a member of several academic bodies including the Union for African Population Studies and the International Society of Ethnobiology.
At the time of his demise, he was a member of the University of Nairobi Council and the Secretary-General of the Luo Council of elders as his Curriculum Vitae reads.
