Deputy President William Ruto's allies will carry on with their high-ranking roles in Parliament thanks to a phone call made by President Uhuru Kenyatta to thwart any attempts to oust them.
According to a report by the People Daily on Monday, February 17, some members of Kieleweke faction in Jubilee Party alongside those from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) camp were reportedly engineering a plan to kick out committee heads from Tangatanga faction.
The plan became apparent during a high-stakes reconstitution of the House Business Committee (HBC).
When Uhuru, however, caught wind of the impending plan, reportedly on Thursday, February 13, he made a call to National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Kieleweke team ordering them to halt their plans.
He allegedly told Duale that he would crack the whip on the leaders he described as rogue if they threatened to scuttle the house's agenda.
Nominated MP Maina Kamanda stated that the rogue MPs should be kicked out from the Parliamentary leadership arguing that the impending Jubilee Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting would not solve much.
“There is no need for a PG if it is not going to do away with the leadership in the Senate. We cannot have a leadership that supports criminals and crooks,” stated Kamanda.
Those allegedly targeted include Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa who chairs the Budget and Appropriations Committee and Baringo North MP William Cheptumo (Justice and Legal Affairs chair).
Others include Mandera West’s Adan Haji (Agriculture) and Pokot South MP David Pkosing (Transport).
Some leaders allied to the DP noted that they were aware of the plot and they did not feel threatened.
“It is not going to be that easy as they think. We have the numbers in Parliament, so let those trying to think that it would be a walk in the park bring it on,” stated Majority Chief Whip David Were as quoted by the publication.
