United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter is the perfect example of the proverb 'when you go to Rome do as the Romans do'.

From speaking sheng and Kenya's national language Swahili to showing off his football skills in Kibera, the ambassador has tried it all to fit in the Kenyan community.

On Thursday, February 20, however, he found himself between a rock and a hard place.

McCarter, on his social media pages, stated that he got stuck in an elevator minutes before the launch of the Kenya Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (KenHIA).

"Believe it or not I got stuck in an elevator just before giving a speech announcing good news of  HIV success in Kenya.

"Never happened to me before but now I have a story to tell. The lesson is always taking the stairs at a health event. Just makes sense!" McCarter wrote on Twitter.

McCarter's photo has since gone viral, with various people sharing it on social media platforms.

"And you’re still smiling for someone who was stuck in a lift. That’s the spirit Balozi," Ahmed Mohamed stated.

"Which Kenya have you been living in?" Nyakwar weighed in.

"But that elevator looks unhealthy overcrowded," Jameson commented.

"Balozi, this is what makes Kenya magical! You are certainly a Kenyan!"

"This picture must have been taken a minute or two into the incident based on how everyone was smiling. Could you post another one taken after the 45 mins that I understand you were stuck for? I bet there weren't as many smiley faces," Kandie remarked.

"Ambassador is just talking. He was used to tough situations while he used to live in our neighbourhood at Tharaka-Nithi. He is a good man, I am sorry for the incident," Simpson Murangiri added.
