A businessman, his wife and two children were brutally murdered at their home in Basamu village, Vihiga County following an attack by gang of seven as reported by Daily Nation on Friday, February 21.
The incident was confirmed by County Commander Hassan Barua.
Villagers stated that the gang allegedly armed with machetes and blunt objects, attacked the family while they were sleeping.
The businessman, since identified as Kennedy Ambani, his wife and one of the children were killed on the spot while the other was rushed to Mungoma Hospital in Vihiga. The child later succumbed to injuries while at the facility.
Vihiga deputy sub-county commander Zachariah Wafula assured that police would conduct a thorough investigation, unearth the killers and motive behind the murders.
“So far no one has been arrested following the attack, but the police have started their investigations to bring the perpetrators to book,” Wafula stated.
Irate residents raided the house of one they suspected as being a member of the gang and lynched him to death. They then proceeded to torch the house of another suspect.
Residents in the county have decried the rise of crime in the recent past.
They pointed finger at security officers in the region, accusing them of doing little to curb the menace. while they called upon county Governor Wilberforce Ottichilo to reshuffle officers in the region.
The incident comes days after another couple was murder and their bodies cut into pieces at Itenji village in Sabatia sub-county.
The deceased, Ambani was the owner of an agro vet in Mgagada area, Bunyore.
