5 People Who Helped Matiang'i Deliver Free and Fair 2016 KCPE Results

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Thursday took time to recognise individuals who assisted him in ensuring that the National Examinations were administered in a highly secure and professional environment free of any leakage.

Speaking during the release of the 2016 KCPE exam results, Dr Matiang'i noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta played a fundamental role in ensuring that the system the ministry had placed to curb cheating was a success.

The minister highlighted that Kenyatta had "remained focused on the issue" following the assenting of the 2016 Kenya National Examination (Amendment) Act in late August.

He further mentioned that working in partnership with the Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and ICT CS Joe Mucheru was also critical in ensuring the exams were safe.

“The partnership approach helped us to deliver the service to the people,” Matiang'i said.

Also at the event, CS Mucheru indicated that: "Application of technology has turned around the education system bringing in transparency and efficiency ".

On the other hand, Mr Nkaissery disclosed that the whole process was secure to the last minute stating: “Even the media didn’t know we are releasing the results today. We secured this to the last minute,” he affirmed.

The Education CS recognised the efforts of every headteacher in the country to make his vision of a free and fair exam become a reality.

“Heroes and heroines are the headteachers. When we developed a new strategy of delivering the exams they worked with us very well,” Matiang'i pointed out.

He highlighted that the Kenya National Exam Council (KNEC) was also a solid foundation in his effort of cleaning up the sector, selectively thanking Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia for her contribution.
