An NTV beauty queen opened up on how being desperate for a job, almost made her work in a mortuary as a last resort to end her joblessness.

In an NTV quickfire interview on Friday, September 29, Rose Ngina who does makeup anchors and reporters, detailed how she marched into a mortuary with her CV and luckily, was advised against it by an attendant at the morgue.

The makeup artist, born and raised in Nakuru, quit university and college after realising that she could earn from her passion and the skills she had gathered.

"First of all, I quit campus. Then I went to college and quit college again. When I was in college, my beauty teacher asked me to demonstrate how I would do my make up so that my classmates could learn.

"After that, she asked me to teach them the makeup unit. The next day, I told my mum about it and that's how I quit.  After that, I became desperate looking for makeup jobs and all people were willing to pay was around Ksh150," Ngina stated.

The idea to seek a job in a morgue was hatched by a close friend after she sought advice. With her CV in hand, she traversed several morgues in search of work.

"She asked me to apply to a mortuary like Lee Funeral Home. I went to Moi Referral Hospital, Eldoret, where I gave my CV to the head of the department at the mortuary, after applying to be a make-up artist for dead people.

"He looked at me and told me I was too young and had enough time to do better things. I was hurt because it was the first job I was asking for. I was tensed because people were taking bodies home and I yet I was there asking for a job," she disclosed.

An opportunity to work in Nairobi opened up after she was called for a photo-shoot with a popular magazine brand. However, she didn't have money for transport and was forced to sell a gas cylinder to raise the fare for her sister as well.

"We received Ksh 2,000 shillings and we left for Nairobi from Eldoret. Before the shoot, we decided to do our own makeup and the stylist was mad but appreciated what we had done. During the shoot, she liked our makeup and she asked who did it. That's how I landed my job in Nairobi and later on got one here at NTV too, she recalled.

The beauty queen also detailed that her close resemblance with her sister usually troubles close friends and strangers who struggle to identify the two.

"My sister is chubbier and I am a little slender. There are times she has done my work and I have done hers. I have even gone on dinner with one of her boyfriends and she has done the same too," she revealed.
