NTV News Anchor Ken Mijungu has opened up for the first time since his high-profile interview with Deputy President William Ruto lit up the country.

Speaking on NTV's Quickfire on Friday, March 6, the outspoken anchor disclosed that he was nervous because he feared that the DP had a formed opinion against him largely based on his last name.

He further pointed out that on arrival at the DP's home, he noticed around 100 General Service Unit (GSU) officers that might have drove him into nervousness.

"He had about 100 GSU officers in his compound and at some point, before the interview, I felt that he might have a formed opinion, he didn’t have it but because I am human I thought he did.

"What if my name betrays me? What if I go there and he thinks that because I am Luo (I am not Luo by the way, I am Suba, but everyone thinks I am Luo). I might be there on assignment. But I thought to myself and said, if that was his concern, he wouldn’t have allowed me to do the interview," stated Mijungu.

He, however, pointed out that he was adequately prepared to tackle the interview and that DP Ruto's turned out to be his easiest undertaking ever.

"In the 12 years of my career, I have never had such an easy interview. Not any form of nervousness, my mind was present throughout. I think it’s also one of the interviews that I really prepared for. That was a well-done interview, I know when I do bad.

"Ruto is a very easy guy. At one point when he came in, we thought because there was a 10-minute break, probably he would want to walk out and come back, but he stayed there and watched the news with us. Occasionally, I would crack jokes and call people to say hello to him," he continued.

In the interview that aired on Thursday, January 23, Ruto addressed matters surrounding his friendship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He stated that the president and himself should only be questioned on what they promised to deliver to Kenyans.

"I have heard many stories and I have read many headlines, 'the marriage has died, bromance and love'.

"My friend (addressing Mijungu), Uhuru Kenyatta is married to Margaret and I am married to Rachel. There is no marriage business here. We were elected by Kenyans to do a job, Uhuru as president and I as the deputy president. What you should be asking me is; 'are you delivering on the job you were given by Kenyans?', " the DP questioned at the time.
